Architecture of Shusha

The city of Shusha has a very distinct and special importance among historical cities of Azerbaijan due to its architectural patterns. While the history of the city dates back to the mid of 18th century, the architecture of Shusha corresponds to the traditions of the medieval urban planning of Azerbaijan. The architectural image of Shusha, which developed since its early days, has remained well. Unfortunately, Armenian invaders have destroyed most of the historic and cultural sites in Shusha. Shusha's architecture is represented by fortress fortifications, palaces, palatial residences, ordinary residences, religious temples and other valuable architectural monuments that define the urban environment. Panahali Khan first invited financially rich people and architects to lay the foundation of Shusha. That might explain the rich and very diverse architecture of Shusha.
